SUBSCRIBE WEDNESDAY 13.2.19 WWW.IRISHGOLFER.IE Padraig Harrington he R&A will stage the 2019 Girls Amateur Championship at Panmure from Tuesday 13 – Saturday 17 August fol- lowing an agreement reached with Montrose Links to move the event to an alternative venue. This change of venue has been made due to a recent announce- ment confirming that a series of music concerts are to be set up and staged on a site immediately adjacent to Montrose Links during the month of August. Duncan Weir, Executive Director – Golf Development and Amateur Events at The R&A, said, "We have a responsibility to all competitors to provide a world class experience in which they can perform to their full potential and this includes minimising any adverse impacts on the staging of the championship. We would like to thank Panmure for moving quickly to step in at such short notice to host this championship, which is again expected to attract a world class field." The Girls Amateur Championship will celebrate its centenary year in 2019. T CHANGE IN VENUE FOR 2019 GIRLS AMATEUR CHAMPIONSHIP After a blue sky start, a stiff breeze greeted last week's players at the 19th running of the Race to 59 at Corballis. With the links showing its teeth, par was al- ways going to be a good score but in the Gross Prize, Black Bush's Philip Duff defied the con- ditions with a super 66 to take home the spoils by one stroke from Roy O'Neill. While in the Nett competition, Derek Harri- son's 66 proved two shots too good for run- ner-up, Barry Smith. With 40 golfers battling the wind, the pot saw the winners bank €280 each while the runners-up took home €120. The Race to 59 resumes tomorrow and let's hope the golfing gods afford a kinder day to everyone involved. DUFF & HARRISON BREEZE TO CORBALLIS FINISH LINE Panmure Corballis
