SUBSCRIBE WEDNESDAY 5.6.19 WWW.IRISHGOLFER.IE .ie I am playing a lot of golf in America this season so it will be extra special to play a World Invitational on home soil and compete alongside the men. L eona Maguire confirmed she will compete in the brand new ISPS HANDA World Invitational Men | Women event at Galgorm Spa & Golf Resort from August 14-18. The Cavan golfer has been making great strides in her fledgling profes- sional career in the States with two wins already this season plus several other top five finishes. The 24-year-old currently com- petes on the US Symetra Tour and won this season's Windsor Golf Classic in April after a closing 65. Last month Maguire picked up another win at the Symetra Classic with an impressive 10-un- der-par 206 total. After her rookie season in 2018, Maguire has wasted little time racing to the top of the standings and this week leads the Symetra Tour money list with season earn- ings of almost $75,000. Last week she and Stephanie Meadow both competed in the Women's US Open, but they failed to make it into the weekend on that occasion. The good thing about golf, however, is the next opportunity is only ever around the corner. And while much of Maguire's focus remains on playing in the States, she is looking forward to competing on home soil later in the season. "First of all, I'm so excited for Ireland to have a professional Leona Maguire will make a welcomed return to Irish shores as a professional this summer when she tees up at the ISPS HANDA World Invitational at Galgorm Spa & Golf Resort. By Paul Gallagher LEONA CONFIRMED FOR WORLD INVITATIONAL AT GALGORM female golf event again after so many years," said Maguire, man- aged by Modest! Golf, who are also Presenting Sponsors of the new event at Galgorm. "The World Invitational will be a great opportunity to play in front of home crowds and I can't thank ISPS HANDA and Mod- est! Golf enough for making it happen. "I am playing a lot of golf in America this season so it will be extra special to play a World Invitational on home soil and compete alongside the men." The new $500,000 event car- ries equal prize money for the men and women with the men's event part of the European Chal- lenge Tour schedule for the event formerly known as the NI Open. The NI Open set all attendance records on the European Chal- lenge Tour and this year's event promises to be just a popular with the introduction of a world class ladies' event. The World Invita- tional will be played over two venues, Galgorm Spa & Golf Re- sort and Massereene Golf Club. For tickets and full informa- tion, please visit worldinvita- tional.golf
