WEDNESDAY 28.9.16 SUBSCRIBE A s the tributes pour in from every corner of the globe, after the sudden passing of Mr. Arnold Palmer, words such as 'legend, greatest, inspiration, hero' are being used in abun- dance. Of course, they are all befitting the influence and leg- acy the great man has left. But these words are used quite of- ten when someone of notoriety passes away. When it comes to golf, Mr. Palmer wasn't just in a league of his own, he creat- ed the league. He deserves his own unique description of who he was and that's why he was simply known as 'the King'. I like to think of him as the 'Godfather of Golf' – the one that all aspir- ing golfers looked up to over the past few decades and will continue to do so for genera- tions to come. Nowadays, Tiger arguably possesses a similar in- fluence in the golfing world, but if it wasn't for Mr. Palmer, who knows, we may never have seen Tiger on the course, or many of the other world class golfers that have kept us entertained over the years. Coincidentally, it was shortly after the PGA Tour season had ended, that the sad news of Mr. Palmer's death was publicised. Rory McIlroy had just produced an exceptional performance over the weekend, right up to the fi- nal putt in the playoff, to win the Tour Championship resulting in him also winning the prestigious FedEx Cup trophy.
